La lingua cinese (汉语, Hànyŭ) è molto diversa dall’italiano che appartiene al ceppo sino-tibetano.

Non va dimenticato che il cinese “standard” (o mandarino) è una lingua artificiale, dato che in Cina si parlano molte lingue diverse che in comune hanno solo la scrittura.

Vediamo alcune caratteristiche fondamentali.

Il cinese è una lingua monosillabica in cui la base è il carattere-morfema ( 汉字hànzì): ciò significa che ogni carattere ha un significato specifico. Non esiste un alfabeto in cui la successione delle lettere porta alla formazione di parole più o meno lunghe con significati diversi.

Il cinese è una lingua isolante, quindi non ci sono coniugazioni e declinazioni, necessari, ad esempio, nelle lingue romanze per comprendere tempi verbali, numero e genere dei sostantivi.

Dato che la base della lingua è la sillaba e le combinazioni sillabiche sono limitate, il cinese utilizza quattro variazioni del tono della voce (più uno neutro) per differenziare le pronunce e, quindi, i significati.

Il cinese viene scritto con i caratteri: ciascuno è composto da un diverso numero di tratti. I tratti fondamentali sono 8, da scrivere seguendo delle regole specifiche.

Chinese language (汉语, Hànyŭ) is very different from English which belongs to the Sino-Tibetan group.

It shall be remembered that standard Chinese (or mandarin) is an artificial language, since many different languages with only writing in common are spoken in China.

Let’s see some characteristics.

Chinese is a monosyllabic language whose basis is the character-morpheme ( 汉字hànzì): that is to say that each Chinese character has its own meaning. There is no alphabet where the sequence of letters leads to the formation of words with different meanings.

Chinese is an isolating language, so there aren’t any conjugation or declination, necessary in languages like Roman ones to understand tenses, number and genre of nouns.

Since the basis of the language is the syllable and the combinations are limited, Chinese makes use of four variations of the tone of voice (plus a neutral one) to differentiate pronunciation and, therefore, meanings.

Chinese is written using Chinese characters: each of them is composed of a different number of strokes. The basic ones are 8, to be written following specific rules.
